About sen

About sen

Ashmita Sen is a London and Calcutta–based artist whose practice has been shaped by a lifelong relationship with art. She began creating from an early age, and that early immersion has remained a defining force in her identity as a creative.

Her talent was recognised young, when she was awarded by the former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, a formative moment that marked her emergence as a prodigy and affirmed her dedication to the discipline. Between 2010 and 2018, she received formal training with distinction at the Srijoni School of Fine Arts, Kolkata, alongside prestigious recognitions including the Indraprastha Award by the State of Delhi and the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Gyaanpeeth Award.

Throughout her school years in Delhi, Ashmita consistently stepped into creative leadership roles, contributing to artistic initiatives across the school community. She was honoured with the Best Artist Award for sustained excellence and went on to receive multiple wins at inter-school, district, and state-level art competitions.

At university, she became a core member of her college’s Fine Arts Society, Adwitiya, where she played an active role in shaping its creative culture by organising competitions and exhibitions for the wider university community.

Ashmita specialises in watercolour landscape painting, a medium through which she captures light, atmosphere, and the quiet power of the natural world. Her work is guided by sensitivity rather than spectacle. Through each piece, she seeks to translate nature’s beauty into moments of stillness, inviting calm, connection, and a deeper appreciation of the environments we inhabit.
