Air · Growth · Emergence

Named after the connective tissue that supports and holds living structures together, STROMA explores the quiet relationship between fragility and resilience.

The painting unfolds in two distinct emotional registers. Above, heavily layered textures in deep indigo, violet, charcoal, and muted teal create a dense atmospheric field that feels organic and immersive — reminiscent of cellular structures, rain-soaked stone, overgrown landscapes, or the unseen interior worlds of the body and mind. The textured surface appears to drip, erode, and evolve, carrying a sense of slow transformation.

Emerging from this darkness, lotus flowers bloom with luminous clarity across the lower half of the composition. Delicate yet grounded, they introduce stillness and renewal into an otherwise turbulent environment. Their presence is not decorative, but symbolic: growth rising from depth, softness existing alongside endurance.

Drawing from the sanguine temperament and the element of air, STROMA reflects on emotional expansion, healing, and the invisible structures that sustain life — both physically and psychologically.

Balancing botanical realism with contemporary abstraction, the work exists between painting and atmosphere, inviting viewers into a space that feels meditative, immersive, and quietly alive.

"Some things bloom only after learning how to survive the dark."
