Ignis
Fire · Instinct · Becoming
IGNIS captures the body in its most instinctive state — driven by heat, emotion, impulse, and transformation. Layers of crimson, ember, burnt sienna, and molten gold collide across the canvas in a composition that feels simultaneously cellular and cosmic, like fire spreading through both the nervous system and the atmosphere.
At the centre, a vertical surge of fluid colour rises like an internal flame — suggestive of energy, memory, or the body awakening to itself. Splattered white marks drift across the surface like sparks, neurons, or fragments of thought suspended in motion. Throughout the work, abstraction and anatomy blur into one another, reflecting the artist’s ongoing interest in the emotional architecture of the body.
The exposed raw wood inset interrupts the intensity of the composition with something grounding and physical — a quiet reminder of materiality beneath sensation.
Drawing from the ancient association of fire with the choleric temperament, IGNIS explores the volatile space where emotion exists before language: visceral, immediate, and impossible to contain.
"Before we understood ourselves, we burned."
